My Great-Grandmother’s Dresses

Did she get ready in a slapdash rush…did her husband help with the metal snaps that ran along her side…did she spritz perfume on her neck and wrists or prefer to walk into a cloud of scent…how long did she hold out hope for a daughter before resigning herself to the tender cruelty of raising four sons?

And did she have an inkling that, someday, her great-granddaughter—the baby she held in her sunspot dappled arms—would find her trunk, tucked away in a secret storage space at the family farm, and uncover these wrinkled dresses folded between 1930’s newspaper?

Your little voice…

your little voice
Over the wires came leaping
and i felt suddenly
dizzy
With the jostling and shouting of merry flowers
wee skipping high-heeled flames
courtesied before my eyes
or twinkling over to my side
Looked up
with impertinently exquisite faces
floating hands were laid upon me
I was whirled and tossed into delicious dancing
up
Up
with the pale important
stars and the Humorous
moon
dear girl
How i was crazy how i cried when i heard
over time
and tide and death
leaping
Sweetly
your voice

I’m missing the Great Lakes already. Here is a great t-shirt to commemorate the greatest place on earth: Up North.

Boutique Bliss

Revival Vintage: 7403 Beverly Blvd. LA. 90036. A collection of dresses from 1950’s to 1980’s. All sizes, not just teeny tiny. I left the hermes aqua rope dress on the rack for one of you, but took home an indian print floor length wrap skirt. This blog research is not good for my credit, but great for my closet. The 1950’s sea green bow dress featured here is $230.

TenOverSix:
7427 Beverly Blvd. LA.  This accessories gallery is out of my credit limit league, but it’s so fun to look. I covet the Alexander Wang Brenda Zip Chain Bag $795 and the A.P.C. weekend bag $325.

You’re Welcome!

I saved every Domino Magazine that ever came in the mail. I’d cozy up with it in bed and flag the prettiest pages. My husband called it my porn. Then, the economy tanked and Domino folded. And I lost my pretty porn. Meet Lonny Magazine. In addition to interior design, Lonny Mag also mingles with beauty, apparel, do-it-yourself crafting, and cooking. Wallet Beware: click on an item you love and the mag takes you directly to the site where you can buy it. Shopping just got way too easy.

Fashion Blogs J’Adore:

Garance Dore: A tragically elegant blog created by a Parisian illustrator. She includes beautiful photos of street fashion.
whowhatwear: fashion pics. I love its magazine style layout.
refinery29: This too cool for school blog is a great prep for trips to NYC. It shows you what all those “crazy kids” are up to these days.
The Zoe Report : I don’t have the guts or the moolah to attempt most of Rachel Zoe’s fashion feats, but it’s always fun to look.

Kelly Time

I have a Grace Kelly fetish.  My husband took advantage of my weakness for her by proposing to me on a trip to Monaco. Net-A-Porter’s weekly fashion magazine is having an orgy of all things Grace. Light a candle, pour a glass of wine, and enjoy: Grace Kelly on Net-A-Porter
